More of the Same

Landon aced his big science and social studies tests last week, finished up learning about arctic animals, and he also took another trip to our favorite park with his daddy (and the rest of us).

SOCIAL STUDIES: Arctic Animals
Landon made this polar bear in the snow. You can't tell from the picture but it's actually puffy and soft. He mixed equal parts shaving cream and glue to get the effect. The snow is made from equal parts sand and glue. He loved working with different materials to create his work.

ART: Silhouettes
In art class Landon learned about silhouettes and how to create them.

PARK PLAY: Picking flowers for mom.

 Swinging with daddy.

 Crazy hair Leila!

Throwing sticks in the muddy river.

 Crunching leaves!

 Leilani's first big swing!

Leila going up with daddy to take her first ride down the slide.

Levi loved the slides. It was his first time too!

Moving Along

September is flying by and school is moving along perfectly. Landon is enjoying his studies and having lots of free time for other things. He will remind me, when we are out and about, that other kids his age are still in school. He loves the freedom homeschool gives us to work out our own schedule. After our studies this week we were able to hit the beach, a park, and a Health and Science Museum with some new homeschooling friends!

SOCIAL STUDIES: Alaskan Inuit
Landon building his sugar cube igloo for his Alaskan Inuit project.

Levi was collecting and counting his shoes. Such a big job for him.

 MATH: Multiplication

ARRR!

This week we decided to fit in a field trip to a local history museum that currently has a pirate-themed area inside. So, after learning about the history of our area we took some extra time to play pirates!

This was Landon having a conversation with the dummy. He cracks me up.

An older version of the Marine uniform.

AVAST! This is the cool pirate ship inside the museum!

Levi climbed up the ship too but wouldn't hold still long enough to take his picture. Plus he wasn't a fan of being on the ship, he wanted the toys!

Here's the little LAND LUBBER! This stuff looks my size. Meanwhile....

.....Landon was captured! Gonna have to walk me plank.

 Yo-ho-ho....

Shiver me timbers, what a cute smilin' babe!

Me little lass, Leilani is just happy to watch her brothers.

And here's my big SEA DOG!

Thanks for visiting our blog! Come see us again next week! ARRRR!

Personality Plus!

Landon finished up his review lessons on addition and subtraction this week and will start multiplication next week. In Language Arts he has been learning how to mind map a story and was reviewing the use of a Venn Diagram for non-fiction. Science class finished off with more collecting, organizing, and interpreting data and we started a new unit in Social Studies, learning about the  Alaskan Inuit. All of that is fine and good but this week's post is really about Landon's personality. Here is my animated son and these pictures show just how fun he is to have around all day!

 ART: Starry Night
In Art Class Landon learned about Vincent van Gogh. He then made his own art piece by interpreting van Gogh's famous painting, Starry Night.

He used torn pieces of construction paper and glue to create his masterpiece.

Such an artist :)

(In case you are unfamiliar with the original.)

Even though we didn't have school on Monday, we still took the time to learn about the holiday and colored some pictures together.

 I just love this boy!
