For Levi, school is so much about play and discovery and he just recently figured out how to stack small blocks for counting. He also tried feeding himself with a spoon for the first time. His theme for the month is Halloween so he is learning what a pumpkin, witch, bat, ghost, and cat are. His main curriculum for the month is the letter C, the color orange, the number 3, and the triangle. As usual, his favorite part is singing the Halloween songs and doing the finger plays.
Leilani just continues to smile, scream with delight, and chatter away. She loves her oldest brother and lights up when he comes to play with her. She has started eating solid food, rolling from her back to her belly, and just the other day tried saying Mom!
CHARACTER BUILDING: Integrity
Landon had to make a pennant to show what integrity meant to him.
SCIENCE: Hotdog Experiment
Could he cook his lunch with just a piece of tin foil and the sun?
YEP! Yummy!
What will the sun do to these three objects?
Ice - Candle - Rock
His guess was correct.
How does color affect absorbing the sun's energy?
The water with the white paper was 95 degrees.
The water with the black paper was 100 degrees.
SOCIAL STUDIES: WWII
Landon compared and contrasted two similar tanks that were used during WWII. One was a German tank and one was an American tank.
(He also compared and contrasted two aircraft carriers and learned that Germany only had ONE aircraft carrier during WWII that never saw battle - not pictured.)
During his WWII unit, Landon is learning what it was like to be a kid in America at that time. In this activity he made a homemade flashlight for reading under the covers during blackouts or for sending Morse Code messages to friends. He has been practicing his Morse Code and learned that a common message was V for Victory!
ART: Op Art
Landon learned about an artist named M.C. Escher, who is known for his optical illusions in his work. Landon tried his hand at his own checkerboard optical illusion.

Eating with a spoon! YAY!
And the Princess of the House!
